National Student conference CHEMFLARE-2K23

The Department of Chemical Engineering, ANITS, Visakhapatnam, in association with RACE (Rays of ANITS Chemical Engineers) & ANITS IIChE Students chapter under Walter Region Centre organized a two day National student conference, “CHEMFLARE-2023”, during 2nd and 3rd March 2023. Prof. R. Srikanth, Head of the chemical Engineering department, ANITS is the president of the inaugural function, Dr. Ch. Anil, Faculty convener, Mr. P. Naveen Kumar, Student president RACE body were also present on the dais.

Prof. R. Srikanth, advised students to be actively involve in workshops, conferences, technical fests conducted. He informed that, the chemical engineers are good at cause and effect of the process. He advised students to be like bigfish in small pond but not like a small fish in a big lake. He emphasized that the future is for Electric Vehicles, Catalysis, Biotechnology and Nanotechnology.

Dr. Ch. Anil, Faculty convener, highlighted the difference between the academic environment and industrial environment. He expressed that, the department will always encourages students to participate in various technical and extra-curricular activities. He also informed that, such events and activities will be organized in future also for the benefit of the students. He also informed the activities of the CHEMFLARE-2023 such as Resonate (paper presentation), Re-vibe (poster presentation), reflux (model expo), reminisce (cross word), spot events like mock CID, mock parliament and sports.

Mr. P. Naveen Kumar, Student president RACE body, thanked all the participants 52 are from outside colleges and 120 are in-house participants. He congratulated all the winners of various events. He expressed gratitude for Prof. S. Subba Rao, Mr. K. Koteswara Rao, Ms. S. Harika, Dr. K. China Malakondaiah, Dr. D. Anjali, and Mr. Pradeep Santosh Kumar, other supporting staff, and Students who made the event grand success.

National Student conference CHEMFLARE-2K22

The Department of Chemical Engineering, ANITS has organized a two day National Level Student Conference Chemflare 2k22 during 21 st April – 22 nd April, 2022. With a total participation of 51 students, of which students are from GPCE, RVR & JC, JNTUK,MVGR GVP and GMRIT. We saw more enthusiasm and an increase in the number of participants than last year. With a total of two technical paper presentation sessions, a poster session, how do you react, technical treasure hunt and various spot events, the participants were given various exciting and demanding platforms, by which they were able to improve their skills and knowledge. With a total of 11 prototype models, 18 papers and 6 posters are presented, the competition was indeed tough. Students were highly enlightened with technical events and spot events.

National Student conference CHEMFLARE-2K20

The Department of Chemical Engineering, ANITS, Visakhapatnam, in association with RACE (Rays of ANITS Chemical Engineers) & ANITS IIChE Students chapter under Walter Region Centre was organizing a two day National student conference, “CHEMFLARE-2020”, during 19th and 20th February 2020. The chief guest of the inaugural function is Sri G.S.V.S.S.S Prasad Sarma, Executive Director (Retd.), Visakha Refinery, HPCL, the guest of honour Mr. Naveen Neerukond, Treasurer, ANES, Prof. T.V. Hanumantha Rao, Principal; ANITS is the president of the function. Dr. Ch. Anil, Head of the chemical Engineering department and Mr. B. Pradeep Santosh Kumar, Faculty convener, Mr. J. Sashidhar Student president RACE body are also present on the dais.

Prof. T.V. Hanumantha Rao, in his presidential remarks informed the students that, the change in technological trends are taking place, the growth and transform in process industries are fast. The students need to foresee these changes should be updated with computational skills, optimization and data sciences. He also emphasized the importance of sustainable development, zero discharge, waste management and advised all the chemical engineering students to work in these areas.

Mr. N. Naveen, the Guest honour, advised students to be actively involve in workshops, conferences, technical fests conducted. He informed that, the chemical engineers are good at cause and effect of the process. He advised students to be like bigfish in small pond but not like a small fish in a big lake.

Mr. Prasad Sarma, the Chief Guest, highlighted the difference between the academic environment and industrial environment. Teaching faculty, friends, supporting system etc. will help the students in academic environment, whereas, the more competition will prevail at industrial environment. The human skills, technical skills and delivery skills will be dominating the industry environment. He emphasised the importance of IQ, EQ and SQ in industry. He also emphasised that the future is for Eclectic Vehicles, Catalysis, Biotechnology and Nanotechnology.

HOD, Dr. Ch. Anil, in his address expressed, the department will always encourages students to participate in various technical and extra-curricular activities. He also informed that, such events and activities will be organized in future also for the benefit of the students.

National workshop on MATLAB for Engineers-2019

The Department of Chemical Engineering, ANITS, Visakhapatnam, in association with ANITS IIChE Students chapter under Waltair Regional Centre organized a two day National Workshop on, “MATLAB for Engineers”, during 27th and 28th Dec., 2019. The chief guest of the inaugural function is Prof. R. Padmasree, Chemical Engineering Department, Andhra University, and Prof. T.V. Hanumantha Rao, Principal, ANITS is the president of the inaugural function.

Prof. T.V. Hanumantha Rao, in his presidential remarks insisted students to learn new technologies/skills so that they will be industry ready. He also emphasized the importance of computational skills in the present era. He expressed that tools like MATLAB will help in solving the complex engineering problems easily.

During these two days a total 107 participants attended the workshop, which include participants from Government Institute of Chemical Engineering, Raghu Engineering College, students from the Departments of EEE, ECE, and CSE of ANITS. Prof. R. Padmasree, the Chief Guest, explained the origin and uses of MATLAB tool. In her keynote address she explained how MATLAB is useful for engineers by taking different case studies. She explained how to solve steady state and dynamic reactor problems, control system problems and bio-reactor problems. Dr. B. Srinivas, Professor, GVP College of Engineering delivered, presented a lecture on “Optimization of Reactors”. Apart from the plenary lectures hands on experience sessions were organised in the workshop on Basics of MATLAB software, Solving linear and non linear equations, Curve fitting, Optimization, Differentiation and integration of equations and Simulink. Dr. Ch. Anil HoD, Prof. R. Srikanth, Dr. M. Shiva Naresh, Dr. Anjali, Mr. M. Koteswara Rao and Mr. B. Pradeep Santosh Kumar acted as recourse persons for the workshop.

National Student conference CHEMFLARE-2K19

The Department of Chemical Engineering, ANITS has organized a two day National Level Student Conference Chemflare 2k19 during 28th February – 1st March, 2019. Chief Guest of the event Dr. Srinubabu Gedala, CEO and Managing Director, PULSUS group addressed the gathering and highlighted the importance of chemical engineering. He advised the students to become “Job Providers rather Job Seekers”. Prof. T. V. Hanumantha Rao, Dean, Academics, ANITS informed that the world is moving faster in technology and science. Prof. S. Subba Rao, HoD, Chemical Engineering informed the gathering about the responsibility of chemical engineers in solving the problems arise out of the chemical industry. Mr. V.V.S. Karthik, president RACE, introduced the student forum RACE and enlightened on the events of Chemflare 2k19. He mentioned the various events in Chemflare – 2k19 like technical paper presentations, poster presentations, technical treasure hunt, ‘how do you react’ and also spot events. “Rasagyan”, the departmental magazine is released by Dr. Srinubabu Gedala. A formal vote of thanks was proposed by Ms. K.S.S.N.V. Vara Lakshmi. With a total participation of 29 students, of which students are from GPCE, RVR & JC, GVP and GMRIT. National workshop on Process flow and Instrumentation diagrams-2018

The Department of Chemical Engineering, ANITS, Visakhapatnam, in association with Process Engineers from Hyderabad is organized a two day National Workshop on, “Process Flow and Instrumentation Diagrams – An Industrial Perspective”, during 21st and 22nd, Dec., 2018. The inaugural program was graced by Prof. T.V. Hanumantha Rao, Dean Academics, ANITS. The other dignitaries who graced the occasion include, Mr G.Vijay Kumar, Head, Process Engineers Group, Hyderabad, Head of the Department of Chemical engineering, Prof. S.Subba Rao and the Convener of the program, Ms.Suchitra Bandi.Prof. T.V. Hanumantha Rao, the Dean academics, ANITS insisted upon flexibility to meet the diversified needs of both industry and community for which Chemical engineers need to be flexible for horizontal diversification and vertical expansion. He appreciated the organizers for incorporating Hazard analysis and management which is the need of day

Mr G.Vijay Kumar, the Guest of Honor from Process Engineers Group, narrated his experiences during the initial stages of job. A firm grip on ten equipment of chemical engineering is sufficient to understand and also develop flow sheets that can meet industry needs.

National Student conference CHEMFLARE-2K18

The Department of Chemical Engineering, ANITS has organized a two day National Level Student Conference Chemflare 2k18 during 30-31 January, 2018. Chief Guest of the event Mr. B. Balagangadharam, Chief General Manager (Technical), HPCL, addressed the gathering and highlighted the importance of chemical engineering subjects like fluid mechanics, mass transfer, heat transfer and fluidization engineering. He enhanced the knowledge on upstream and downstream processes. Guest of honour Mr. B. Ravikumar, Deputy Controller of Petroleum and Explosives, shared his knowledge on chemical engineering with students. He told that Chemflare is a big platform to explore the hidden skills within the students. Mr. Naveen Neerukonda, Treasurer, ANES mentioned that technical fests are very important in students life and they can share their knowledge with other students so they can enhance their skills.

The Department of Chemical Engineering, ANITS in association with Process Engineers Group from Hyderabad is organized a two day National Workshop on, “Application of theory to Process Industry for Engineers”, during the 8th , 9th, Dec., 2017. The inaugural program was graced by Chief guest Dr. G. Madhu Kumar, Honorary Secretary and Correspondent of Dr. Lankapalli Bullayya Colleges, Visakhapatnam. The other dignitaries who graced the occasion include, Mr. G. Vijay Kumar, Head, Process Engineers Group, Hyderabad, Sri Neerukonda Naveen, Treasurer, ANES, along with principal of ANITS, Prof. T. Hanumantha Rao, and Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering, Prof. S. Subba Rao and the Convener of the workshop, Mr. M. Koteswara Rao.

Dr. G. National Student conference CHEMFLARE-2K17

National Level Student conference CHEMFLARE-2k17 was organized by RACE (Rays of ANITS Chemical Engineering) in the department of chemical engineering during 20-21 February, 2017. Dr. A. Srinivas Kumar, Scientist G and Technology Director, NSTL, Visakhapatnam graced the occasion as the chief guest during the inaugural on 20th February 2017. The keynote address delivered by Dr. A. Gangagni Rao, Sr. Principal Scientist, IICT, Hyderabad mentioned the importance of Chemical Engineering and their role in waste treatment. Souvenir CD was released by chief guest on the day of Inaugural. Number of 27 papers were presented by the students from various universities and institutions namely, Andhra University, JNTUK, GITAM, R.V.R & J.C college of Engg., Baptla college of engg., GVPCE, ANITS. Spot events like Technical Quiz, Elocution and other fun events also conducted. Paper presentations were conducted in two sessions with judges invited from various universities and institutions. The valedictory function was graced by Sri S. Ananda Rao, Vice President, Deccan fine chemicals Ltd. He addressed the gathering with his few words about the role of a chemical engineer in every industry and about his travel in various chemical industries. Prizes were given for best presentations and in others events. Prof. T. V. Hanumantha Rao, Principal, ANITS, Dr. R. Govardhan Rao, director, administration, Prof. S. Subba Rao, HOD, faculty, supporting staff and students of department of chemical engineering are took part in the CHEMFLARE-2k17 and it was grand success.

National workshop on Environmental Challenges and Strategies-2016

The Department of Chemical Engineering ANITS organized a two day National workshop on “Environmental Challenges and Strategies”. Prof. T.V. Hanumantha Rao Principal ANITS started the proceedings of workshop by addressing the Chief guest Mr. Subhash Nandhanwar Chief Manager Technical, HPCL Visakh refinery, Guest of honor Dr. K.Kesava Rao, Professor, department of chemical engineering IISC Bangalore, Prof Subba Rao HOD, Department of chemical engineering ANITS and Dr. M. Siva Naresh Convener of the workshop.

The workshop aims at discussing the challenges and strategies in pollution control in Chemical and Allied industries to mitigate the pollution and strive for a clean environment. The main topics focused in the workshop are fluoride reduction in water, effluent treatment in industries, reduction of particulate matter etc. which were addressed by renowned scientists, industrial experts and also by the researchers.

Prof. T.V. Hanumantha Rao, Principal ANITS, pointed out effect of pollution on the world life due to increase in population. Prof Subba Rao HOD, Department of chemical engineering ANITS, mentioned how the chemical engineering is part and parcel of everyday life. Since the chemical industry is the biggest contributor to pollution, chemical engineers must take steps to mitigate them. Dr. M. Siva Naresh Convener of the workshop highlighted the need for such workshops for increasing knowledge and awareness on environmental challenges; He also mentioned some strategies which are eco friendly.

Chief guest Mr. Subhash Nandhanwar Chief Manager Technical, HPCL Visakh refinery addressed the global warming and suggested young engineers to come up with solution. He also focused on air pollution and GDP growth of China. He also addressed the pollution in Delhi and emission of CO2. He also stressed on water and soil pollution which is due to industries and household.

Dr. K. Kesava Rao, Professor, department of chemical engineering IISC Bangalore, has given a keynote lecture on “Excess fluoride removal from drinking water: health effects and removal”. He focused on effect of fluoride on human life and also stressed on the removal techniques.

National Student conference CHEMFLARE-2K15

National Student conference CHEMFLARE-2k15 was organized by RACE (Rays of ANITS Chemical Engineering) in the department of chemical engineering during 18-19, December, 2015. Dr. S. V. Praveen, Director (operations), L.G. Polymers (P) Limited graced the occasion as the chief guest during the inaugural function on 18th December 2015. The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Sheshamma, AGM, Quality assessment and Technology department, Visakhapatnam Steel plant on environmental aspects in general and at steel plant in particular. Mr. G. Vijay Kumar, Consultant, Process Engineers Group gave a talk on process simulation: various types of simulation packages, challenges in industries, opportunities in industries by learning process simulation packages. A total number of 57 papers were presented by the students from various universities and institutions namely, Andhra University, JNTUK, GITAM, R.V.R & J.C College of Engg., Bapatla Engineering College, MVGRCE, GVPCE, Lords Institute of Engg. and Technology, Hyderabad, ANITS. Spot events like Technical Quiz, Elocution and other fun events were also conducted. The valedictory function was graced by Sri V. Appala Raju, IRS, Additional Commissioner of Income Tax, who is also a chemical engineer. Prizes were given for best presentations and in others events.

National workshop on application of computational techniques in chemical and biochemical engineering-2015

The Department of Chemical Engineering & Biotechnology conducted a national level workshop on “Application of Computational Techniques in Chemical and Biochemical Engineering” on February 24th and 25th, 2015. Mr. Siva Kiran, Assistant Professor from MSRIT (MS Ramaiah Institute of Technology), Bangalore gave hands on experience using ASPEN HYSYS and ASPEN PLUS technical simulating software. Mr. Siva Kiran explained basic concepts and advantages of simulation techniques. He described in detail the user interface and modules in the software packages. He also helped students and faculty design their own simulations for modeling heat exchangers, distillation columns and chemical plants based on case studies and flow sheets. Dr. Padma Sree, Professor from Andhra University and Dr. Shiva Naresh, Assistant Professor, ANITS also delivered talks on computational techniques in the introductory and concluding sessions of the workshop. Students and faculty from various colleges such as Andhra University (College of engineering), GITAM University, Gayatri Vidya Parishad, ANITS, Visakhapatnam, MVGR college, Vizianagaram and GMR Institute of Technology, Rajam attended the productive two-day workshop

Faculty Development Programme-2014

ANITS hosted the faculty development program in the Department of Chemical Engineering organized on 18th and 19th June 2014.

Dr. B. Srinivas, Professor and Head, Department of Chemical Engineering, Gayatri Vidya Parshid college of Engineering has given a talk on Optimization Studies using MATLAB on 18th June 2014.. He also emphasized on the standard problems of optimization comparing with Local and Global minima. He also explained the MATLAB optimization tool box for the faculty in the department. He advised faculty to use the GAMS software for solving all types of optimization problems.

Dr. K.V.Ramesh, Professor, Department of Chemical Engineering, Andhra University has given talk on teaching methodologies for the faculty in the department on 19th June 2014 . He said that preparing well for the class brings confidence for any teacher in the classroom. He also insisted faculty to include fundamental concepts and practical examples in teaching. He also suggested the Head of the Department to make interactive sessions for the students with the neighboring colleges for improvement in their standards.
